whitner & Company
co working space
A co-work space with leasable conference rooms and offices will soon open behind the site of the former Bailes Building 109 S. McDuffie St., right next to Generator Park. This space will facilitate an opportunity for people who don’t work out of a traditional office (or perhaps seeking an environment change from working at home) to pay a monthly fee (rather than sign a lease) to come to a community office to mingle with and work alongside other entrepreneurs, freelancers and small-business owners during their work day.
The 3,100-square-foot building currently undergoing renovations has a prime view of the historic county courthouse and easy, walkable access to downtown amenities like Carolina Wren Park, eCity Java and Doolittle’s.
City Council issued approval in November 2017 of an Economic Development Incentive Agreement with Whitner & Company in the amount of $31,000 for a five-year period. The building is expected to accommodate up to 32 start up or expanding businesses with a total private investment of $420,000.
The development satisfied eligibility criteria for the Economic Development Incentive Program through its emphasis on Research and Development and High Technology Growth Businesses.
